This week the class has worked really hard to combine their learning in science with their increasing knowledge of paragraph writing.

Specifically, we have been looking at opinion writing. Yesterday we defended our opinion that Evelyn Glennie's percussion playing is 'music' and not just 'noise'.

To do this, we had to think hard about what music really is. We decided it has rhythm and beat, different pitches and sounds good. We also brought in some social studies when we considered how we often prefer music from our cultural background and we might even think of music from other cultures as 'noise'. Whatever we think, we do so respectfully though:)

Our paragraphs had to include:

topic sentence
tie up
details supporting the topic sentence

As we are getting better at paragraph writing, our work is getting longer! Here are a few examples of what we wrote today. These are first drafts! They absolutely look like they have spent days working on them - but they were written in one writing session!

In math, we continue to work on subtraction with regrouping. We are finding more ways to subtract, including using manipulatives, expanded notation and number lines.

Don't forget there is no school on Friday or Monday. Happy Easter!
