Volunteers Still Needed

VOLUNTEERS STILL NEEDED!

I now have two volunteers to GO to the production on Thursday. I need another to go there and back, if possible and definitely one to help us on the walk back. Thank you so much for the two parents who have volunteered already:) I am very grateful to you.
Still looking for volunteers for Thursday. We don't have any in our class as of now. Please let me know if you are planning to volunteer but have just not had time to let me know. Thank you!

Can you let me, Mrs. Njie know as soon as you are able, if you can volunteer:) Many thanks.

Also, please don't forget that half the class is on a field trip tomorrow and will need to take two snacks to school, in addition to the usual lunch. One snack will be eaten at school before we leave. If time allows, we will eat the other (easy pocket snack) just before we get on the bus. The other half of the class will be joining the remaining grade three classes.

Mary Poppins Junior Musical at Our Lady of Grace School

Dear Parents and Guardians,
On Thursday, May 16, 2019 our Grades 2, 3 and 4 students will be walking with their classes and teachers to Our Lady of Grace to watch Mary Poppins Junior,  a special musical performed by the Junior High students.
Below is the itinerary for this special event:
8:30 AM     Walk from Ken Taylor to Our Lady of Grace
9:30 AM     Performance begins
10:15 AM   Approximate intermission & time to eat snack
11:30 AM   Walk back from Our lady of Grace to Ken Taylor
Students will have an opportunity to eat their lunch (including the pre-purchased Fun Lunches) when they return to the school after the performance.
To prepare for this special day we ask that you dress your child appropriately for the walk, which is 1.8 km each way.  Please ensure your child is wearing sunscreen, a hat, running shoes, and a jacket appropriate for the weather.
Also, it would be helpful to pack an extra big snack and a water bottle too as children tend to be extra hungry during outings.
We require volunteers to accompany the students for this event.  If you have been approved as a CBE Volunteer and are able to help out for the morning, please email your child's teacher to let them know.
Teachers will be reviewing expectations with students prior to the walk to mitigate possible hazards including staying with the group; walking on the sidewalk and crossing the road with the adults. Students will be reminded to be aware of their surroundings to avoid trips and falls.
We are very excited about this unique community building opportunity.
Kind regards,

Christina Tuttle,
Assistant Principal

Happy Mother's Day!

I hope you all had a wonderful Mother's Day and did something special with your family.

The students should have given you a piece of writing that is sure to bring a tear to your eye:) It was also a sneaky way to have the kids practice writing paragraphs! They had to write a topic and concluding sentence. The body of the paragraph should have contained details that related directly to the topic sentence. They then revised and edited their work. They were not given any help! It is nice to see how much they can achieve all by themselves:)

Half of our class went to St. Vlad's Museum last week; the other half will go this Tuesday. Remember that they will be eating lunch late so they are asked to bring a large snack to eat at 8:20 and a small, really easy and quick to eat snack in case they have time to eat before getting on the bus home.

Here are some pictures from last week.

We also had a chance to build our musical instruments:

We also made friendship bracelets to sell and raise money for a charity and spread the Ripple Effect!

We are going on a special community walk field trip to see a production put on by our neighboring school. This field trip will be on Thursday morning. If you can volunteer, please let me know.

Monday, 6 May 2019

Just to be clear, the half of the class that is going to St. Vlad's tomorrow is still going! It is just the students who were doing a community walk that will not be doing this.

Remember to have your child eat a large breakfast and have two snacks. One will be eaten at school before we go and one easy non messy pocket snack will be kept for a spare transition moment:)

Community Walk

Tomorrow's community walk has been cancelled due to lack of volunteers.

May 4, 2019

Dear Parents and/or Guardians,

The half of our Grade 3 class that will not be going to Saint Vlad’s Museum will be participating in a Community Walk on Tuesday May 7th. We will be leaving Ken Taylor School at 8:45am and returning at 10:45am. The purpose of this walk is to learn about our community and explore how it changes throughout the seasons. We will be walking to the Creekside wetlands north of Symons Valley Parkway. As part of our walk, we will be recording some of our experiences through journaling. We will also be eating snack while on out walk, so please pack a light snack for your child.

As with any walk, there are some hazards that may be encountered that you should be aware of. These including tripping or slipping while walking, encountering wildlife, and hazards associated with weather. We will do all we can to ensure the safety of our students.

Please dress your child appropriately for the weather conditions of the day; we will be outside the entire time.

In order to go on this community walk, we require parent volunteers to accompany us. All volunteers at any CBE school must have completed and cleared a police security clearance screen prior to volunteering.

If you have police clearance and are available to volunteer please reply to this email to inform you child’s teacher.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Njie and Mr. Straiton

If you returned the field trip form (green) to say your child is going to St. Vlad's on the 14th, your child will be on this community walk. If your child is going on the field trip on Tuesday, they will need to eat a big breakfast and pack an easy to eat, but big snack and a small pocket snack.

Thank you for your help!
